Oklahoma!
Set against the backdrop of the Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the 20th century, OKLAHOMA! (1955) follows the high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys through the lens of a classic romance. The story centers on the confident cowboy Curly McLain and the feisty farm girl Laurey Williams, whose mutual attraction is masked by playful bickering and stubborn pride. Seeking to pique Curly's jealousy, Laurey accepts an invitation to the local dance from the dark and brooding hired hand, Jud Fry… a decision sparks a dangerous love triangle, casting a shadow over the sunny community, while building toward a grand celebration of the territory's impending statehood.
One of the greatest musicals ever made, it earned four Academy Award nominations, winning two (Best Sound Recording and Best Scoring of a Musical Picture) with its iconic score by Rodgers and Hammerstein. From the soaring optimism of "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'", to the playfully flirtatious “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top”, to the grand finale “Oklahoma”, it’s earned its place as a permanent cultural milestone.
